To operate proprietary field joint coating equipment in the execution of PQT’s, under the guidance of a PQT Supervisor, in line with the client’s project requirements. CRC Field Joint Coating Technicians are employed to service, maintain and repair a wide range of field joint coating equipment.
It is the responsibility FJC Technician to apply the coating system as directed by the FJC Supervisor; the FJC Technician will be responsible for making sure that the applied coating system is in line with the project ITP. The coating technician will also make sure that their equipment and work area is clean and safe.
The equipment consists of but is not limited to induction heating, cleaning and coating application apparatus. The following is a non-exhausted list of potential equipment used, closed cycle abrasive blast cleaning, induction coils, fusion bonded epoxy, injection moulded polyurethane, high pressure sprayed multi component liquid coatings, urethane foam infill, polypropylene and polyethylene flame spray, polypropylene and polyethylene heat shrink sleeves. Before commencing work field joint coating technicians are required to be familiar with the above equipment and the procedures needed for effective maintenance, fault diagnosis and repair when necessary.
At times, when working on site only limited resources will be available for the performance of this work.
- Promotion of Safety awareness and establish safe work practices
- Follow all project safe work practices and identify, report any unsafe working condition wherever noted
- Ensure all equipment including PPE is maintained in good working order and removal of defective equipment.
- Be diligent in managing personal behavior in compliance with HSQE requirements
- Ensure that all necessary equipment, spares consumables (with appropriate MSDS sheets), tools etc are stored in CRCE storage containers
- Ensure that all equipment required to carry out coating operations is in good working order.
- Be knowledgeable in the use of coating equipment and hand tools associated with the task
- To work under the instructions of the CRCE Project Manager / Client
- To attend training to be able to operate all PQT area equipment i.e. FLT, Overhead Crane, Bandsaw etc
- Work at all times within the parameters of the approved project planning.
- Maintain effective communications with relevant parties at all times.
- Be aware of all hazards associated with the movement of pipes, task area machinery and coating equipment
- Maintain a safe and clean working area.
- Be totally familiar with the safe operation of the ready light and warning system for pipe pulling operations.
- At all times during pipe pulling be aware of the possibility of an emergency stop situation.
- Provide documentation and attend appointments when requested to facilitate visas, travel, medicals etc
- You have a duty to take care of your own health and safety and that of others who may be affected by your actions at work.
- You will carry out assigned tasks and duties in a safe manner, in accordance with instructions, and comply with all Health, Safety & Environmental rules, policy, procedures, regulations and codes of practice.
- Ensure that you follow any instructions or health, safety & environmental training provided by the company and report any hazards, injuries or ill health that present a serious and imminent risk and inform your line manager about any shortcomings you identify within your health and safety arrangements.
