Trustee with medical research background

Join to apply for the Trustee with medical research background role at The Humane Research Trust

What difference will you make?

Are you enthusiastic about wanting to help us fund alternatives to the use of animals and animal products in medical research?

The Humane Research Trust CIO’s charitable purpose is to be at the forefront of educating, supporting, and funding current and future scientists to find alternatives to the use of ALL animals and animal products in medical research to advance human health.

Millions of animals are used in scientific research to try to understand human diseases and predict reactions to drugs. However, animals have different ageing processes, are susceptible to different diseases and have different metabolisms which makes them poor substitutes for humans.

Scientific breakthroughs have given us human models to study human diseases. The Humane Research Trust CIO raises funds to promote the use of these models and to develop new models to replace the use of animals in medical research.

By joining us you will be working with and supporting a committed group of 11 trustees, 4 staff and volunteers to enrich and extend the reputation of the charity, locally and nationally.

In return, joining our Board could provide the ideal opportunity for you to develop new skills, give something back to the community or take on a new challenge in your life.

What will you be doing?

The Humane Research Trust CIO is a thriving charity that awards grants to UK scientists to develop new methods to replace the use of animals in medical research. All our funds are raised from the public.

We have ambitious plans to grow our impact. We are looking for an enthusiastic individual with a background and skills in medical research to join our Board and support our science strategy and decision-making.

You will attend quarterly Board meetings (ideally in person) to set the Trust’s strategy and be involved in the overall management and governance of the Trust, and you will be a member of the Board's science sub-committee.

Trustees must be willing to work as part of a team and to assist in the general management and operation of the Trust. We anticipate that this will involve about 3-5 hours a month plus attendance at quarterly Board and sub-committee meetings.
