We are currently seeking two dedicated and resilient Behaviour Support Assistants to join a welcoming primary school in Middlesbrough. This rewarding role involves supporting pupils who require additional behavioural, emotional, and social support to fully engage with their education.

This is an excellent opportunity for individuals who are passionate about making a positive difference in children's lives and are confident managing and de-escalating challenging behaviours in a school setting.

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with behavioural, social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs.
  • Build positive and trusting relationships with pupils to help them regulate emotions and access learning.
  • Support the implementation of behaviour management strategies and individual support plans.
  • Work alongside class teachers, SEND staff, and senior leaders to create a safe and inclusive learning environment.
  • Assist pupils during lessons, break times, and transitions throughout the school day.
  • Use positive reinforcement and restorative approaches to encourage engagement and personal development.
  • Respond calmly and confidently to incidents of challenging behaviour, following school policies and procedures.
  • Promote pupils' social skills, confidence, independence, and emotional wellbeing.
  • Has previous experience working with children or young people displaying challenging behaviours.
  • Is confident, resilient, and able to remain calm under pressure.
  • Has experience within schools, alternative provisions, youth work, care settings, residential support, or similar environments.
  • Can build strong professional relationships while maintaining clear boundaries.
  • Is patient, empathetic, and committed to supporting vulnerable pupils.
  • Holds a Team Teach qualification or similar behaviour management training (desirable but not essential).
  • Has a genuine passion for helping children overcome barriers to learning and achieve their potential.
  • A supportive and experienced leadership team.
  • Ongoing training and professional development opportunities.
  • A welcoming and inclusive school community.
  • The chance to make a lasting impact on pupils' educational and personal outcomes.
  • Potential for a long-term or permanent opportunity for the right candidates.

This role would particularly suit candidates with experience in SEMH, behaviour support, youth mentoring, support work, residential care, sports coaching, or SEND education.

If you are confident working with challenging behaviours and are looking for a rewarding role where no two days are the same, we'd love to hear from you. Apply today to be considered.
