Join us as a Community Engagement Officer at Thirteen Group!
Role Overview :
Thirteen Group is on the lookout for a Community Engagement Officer (internally known as Community Champion) to join our Housing and Communities team for 20 hours per week.
Covering shifts between 2pm and 10pm, with some daytime weekend shifts, you’ll be a welcoming, visible presence in our neighbourhoods and high-rise buildings. You'll work every Wednesday as a half‑day shift, and you’ll follow an alternating rota for Sundays, Mondays, Fridays and Saturdays. This means that if you work a Friday one week, you'll have the following Friday off.
Working in pairs, no two shifts will be the same. You’ll carry out neighbourhood walkabouts and building inspections, support community events and gather valuable customer insight. You’ll need to be flexible to work afternoons, evenings and weekends as required, helping us strengthen trust, safety, inclusion and connection across our neighbourhoods.
Thirteen Benefits:- Salary - £16,226.48 pro rata per annum (FTE £30,019).
- Annual leave – pro rata starting at 28 days and rising to 31 days after three years, a day off for your birthday, plus bank holidays.
- Pension – up to 17% contributions (flexible contribution rates of up to 7% colleague and up to 10% employer).
- Simply Health – save money on common health expenses and get access to health and wellbeing support services.
- T’dar – our Discount and Reward platform giving you huge savings on everyday brands.
- Opportunities to buy and sell annual leave.
- Be a trusted, approachable presence in our neighbourhoods, building positive relationships with customers, community partners, local services and residents’ groups.
- Work alongside a Community Champion to carry out neighbourhood walkabouts, estate inspections and floor checks within high rise buildings, identifying issues such as fly tipping, damage, safety concerns or untidy communal areas.
- Engage with customers through conversations, drop‑ins, community activities and events. You'll help customers access relevant information and services and support to strengthen community pride, inclusion and social connection.
- Identify and report concerns, including antisocial behaviour, environmental issues and building safety matters.
- Use your observation skills, judgement and ability to build trust to identify issues, gather evidence and help create neighbourhoods where people feel safe, connected and proud to live.
- Work closely with the Community Champion Lead, Housing colleagues and the Building Control Room to ensure safe lone‑working procedures, effective communication and clear handovers.
- You’ll have experience of working with customers or communities in a public‑facing role. Experience of community safety, neighbourhood operations, partnership working or social media engagement would be helpful, but is not essential.
- Comfortable working in community settings and approaching people to start conversations, resolve concerns and gather feedback.
- Able to remain calm and professional when dealing with sensitive situations, including complaints, neighbourhood disputes or reports of antisocial behaviour.
- Observant and able to recognise issues, risks and opportunities, then record and report them clearly and accurately.
- You’re dependable, self‑motivated and comfortable working a flexible shift pattern, predominantly between 2pm and 10pm, with some weekend working.
- Enjoys working as part of a close‑knit team and supporting colleagues to deliver a visible service in local communities.
