Position Summary

The Construction Manager is responsible for construction and improvement projects in the gas transmission system. The Construction Manager identifies contract-worthy projects, consults on project feasibility and site details, coordinates with construction crews, oversees project inspectors, and on a project basis performs construction oversight. The incumbent may also prepare job packages and construction estimates, conduct job walks, and meet with bidders, contractors, and governing agencies.

The Construction Manager ensures projects are completed per company standards, engineering design, regulatory guidelines, permits, and schedule.

This job is also eligible to participate in PG&E's discretionary incentive compensation programs. PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity.

Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed towards the middle or entry point of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.

Salary

Bay Area Minimum: $102,000;
Bay Area Maximum: $162,000. OR California Minimum: $97,000;
California Maximum: $154,000.

Job Responsibilities
  • Apply advanced knowledge of professional and technical concepts to projects in multiple disciplines such as civil, electrical, process instrumentation and pipeline construction management.
  • Attend job scope walk‑downs with PG&E Engineers and Project Managers, lead job scope discussions with Gas Operation Supervisors, conduct preliminary site visits, and solicit input on constructability and contractibility of proposed projects.
  • Interpret, design, and write work‑specific scope documentation and contribute to the decision‑making process with Project Managers and M&C Supervisors related to contract work.
  • Review RFPs to confirm financial data submitted by contractors matches the job scope.
  • Attend and lead formal job walk‑downs and 30/60/90‑day design reviews with Engineering, Project Managers and/or Gas Operation Supervisors to review IFC drawings, scope, schedule and target dates.
  • Compile internal drawings and relevant data for the RFP and contract processes.
  • Address all communication with contractors, conduct on‑site meetings allowing contractors to review the design and ask questions.
  • Utilize workload management database, update assigned projects, assist career‑level employees with system usage and review workload analysis reports.
  • Ensure contractors follow approved site‑specific safety plans, enforce project environmental/land permit conditions and all safety regulations, and act as Incident Commander and Lead PG&E Representative in the field.
  • Assist in pre‑construction project cycle, accompany the team on project walks, offer constructability reports, coordinate kick‑off meetings, PG&E material deliveries, and meet with governing agencies/municipalities to manage permitting compliance.
  • Ensure accurate documentation of contractor billing, manage change orders and close out project field records.
  • Lead weekly construction and progress meetings, publish meeting notes with field records on a project basis, maintain positive relationships with construction superintendents and project managers as part of the construction team.
  • Provide mentoring to Associate and Career‑level employees, as designated.
Qualifications

Minimum
:
Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience; 5 years of experience in Industrial Engineering or Construction.

Desired
:

  • 7 years working experience in Industrial Engineering or Construction.
  • Knowledge of carbon steel and alloy piping materials, welding processes, procedures and standards used on Gas Transmission Pipelines, compressor and power generating stations.
  • Working knowledge of Primavera P3/P5/P6 scheduling software, and Primavera UNIFIER or similar software.
  • Demonstrated abilities in cost accounting, contract administration, and project scheduling.
  • Demonstrated abilities in project inspection and quality control.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Gas Transmission/Distribution/Conveyance Pipeline Construction, with knowledge of compressor station or similar complex facility construction.
