OverviewThe University of the Pacific invites applications for a full‑time, 9‑month non‑tenure track Assistant Professor of Practice position, starting July 2026. This promo table and renewable position focuses on teaching and supports the university’s mission to provide a superior, student‑centered learning experience. The university is a federally designated Hispanic‑Serving Institution and an Asian American, Native American and Pacific Islander‑Serving Institution. The city of Stockton is noted for its racial and ethnic diversity, as highlighted in a 2020 U.S. News & World Report Special Study.
Responsibilities- Teaching 6 courses over 2 semesters (algebra‑based and calculus‑based introductory physics, and additional courses as needed).
- Optional teaching of modern physics, classical mechanics, quantum mechanics, electromagnetism, optics, astrophysics, cosmology, or other catalog courses.
- Developing new general‑education physics courses for non‑majors or upper‑division electives for physics and engineering majors.
- Eligible to teach summer courses for an additional stipend.
- Mentoring student research and projects.
- Applying for internal research grants.
- Utilizing support from the Office of Sponsored Programs to develop and submit external grant proposals.
- Ph.D. in physics or a closely related field.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills; postdoctoral experience.
- Experience teaching at higher education institutions.
- Experience working with diverse backgrounds and cultures.
- Demonstrated commitment to advancing social justice, equity, and inclusion.
- Ability to integrate culturally responsive practices into teaching.

Hiring RangeSalary range: $70,000.00 (consideration will be given to qualifications, internal equity and budget constraints).
