Under the direction of a Senior Transportation Surveyor (Caltrans), the incumbent will work as a first-line supervisor planning, coordinating, administering, and executing the work of a survey crew conducting preliminary, control, topographic, construction and cadastral land surveys. The incumbent will also train subordinates to perform land survey duties including, but not limited to, operation of precision surveying instruments, proper surveying procedures, equipment maintenance, survey calculations and note keeping.
As a first-line supervisor, the incumbent will perform all required supervisory duties. Possession of a valid California Land Surveyor’s License is required. The incumbent must also maintain a valid Class C driver's license to operate a state‑owned or leased vehicle.
- Possession of a valid driver’s license is required when operating a state‑owned or leased vehicle.
- Must be able to drive any type of vehicle, requiring a Class “C” license for heavy freeway and highway traffic.
Eligibility for hire may be determined by your score on the Transportation Surveyor Party Chief (Caltrans) exam. Applicants who do not have current eligibility (e.g., transfer, permissive reinstatement, or voluntary demotions) and/or who will be new to state civil services employment must be on the state examination list.
