JOB DESCRIPTION AND DUTIESUnder direction of the Area Senior Construction Engineer (a Senior Transportation Engineer), the resident engineer will perform a wide variety of difficult and complex transportation engineering work. Serves as the licensed professional resident engineer on construction projects. Assigns work, gives instructions, makes decisions on difficult engineering and administrative problems in connection with directing work on various transportation projects.

- Valid California Professional Engineering License (Civil) for appointments to Range D; not required for other ranges.
- Authority under Section 5-1.01 “Authority of the Engineer” of the Standard Specifications (requires a valid PE license).
- Statement of Qualifications (SOQ) required. Must be typed, no more than two pages, 12‑point Arial font.
- Demonstrated experience in administering highway construction contracts, interpreting plans and specifications, performing calculations, reviewing submittals, writing change orders, and making engineering recommendations.
- Experience leading a construction project team, delegating tasks, providing direction, and maintaining cooperative working relationships.
- Quantified prior experience in negotiating and managing multiple tasks and projects; ability to meet strict deadlines and maintain well‑organized project files.
- Eligible for appointment to this position is determined by score on the Transportation Engineer (Civil) exam. Candidates must be on the state examination list for eligibility.
