Job SummaryUsing the skills and knowledge developed as a Corps member, you will continue to support the Greater Valley Conservation Corps by acting as a mentor to other Corps members, in addition to other duties specified by the Greater Valley Conservation Corps Leader. Corps members implement a wide variety of projects with parks, schools, businesses, non-profit and neighborhoods, including collection, outreach, and education. Natural resource duties may include landscape maintenance, tree trimming, demolition, bark projects, habitat restoration and invasive species removal.
A Corps member Forestry Technician must be enrolled in the Columbia College program, complete 500 hours of on-the-job training (OJT), have positive evaluations with Greater Valley Conservation Corps and be in good standing with Columbia College.
- Work on outdoor habitat restoration projects, landscape sites and related natural resource environments.
- Support fuel loads projects, invasive species removal, fire breaks, seed collection, seeding and tree planting.
- Tree mortality assessment, tree felling, cone and seed collection.
- Tree nursery and arborist training; wildland forest firefighting training.
- Habitat restoration tasks such as staking trees, discing, and removal of evasive species.
- Natural Resource Division experience or involvement in related projects.
- United States citizen or legal right to live and work in the United States.
- Between the ages of 18 and 25.
- Interest in conservation issues, recycling, waste reduction, and natural resource projects.
- Interest in affecting change through community service; enthusiastic about developing new skills.
- Excellent communication, strong organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to work well with diverse groups of people.
- A one-year commitment to participation in an education and job-training program.
- Interest in career development and participation in field-study program.
- Training and mentorship in environmental science, career development, public relations, community leadership, and more.
- Post-service job search assistance and support for one year after completion of the program.
