Cardiology Medical Support Secretary – Band 3 (Part time, 22.5 hours per week, Mon-Wed)

Salary: £25,760 - £27,476 per annum (pro rata), Fixed Term Contract until 31.12.2026.

Job overview

We are looking for an experienced medical secretary to support the Heart Centre. The role involves working across two sites – Royal Stoke University Hospital and County Hospital, Stafford – to manage waiting lists, type clinical letters, schedule theatre and clinic utilisation, and perform other administrative duties as required by the clinical team.

The postholder must be highly motivated, flexible, able to prioritise workload, multi-task and work efficiently in a busy environment. Excellent organisational and communication skills are essential.

Main duties

Application of secretarial skills, including typing, electronic record handling, word processing, audio transcription and general administrative support to the cardiology team.

Managing waiting lists, typing clinical letters, theatre scheduling, clinic utilisation, and other daily office duties.

Provide support throughout the patient pathway and may liaise across sites.

Qualifications
  • GCSE English or equivalent; RSA III word processing or equivalent; and a minimum of basic computer literacy.
Experience
  • Secretarial or clerical background.
  • Audio typing experience.
Knowledge & Skills
  • Microsoft Office proficiency.
  • Knowledge of patient administration systems and medical terminology.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work as part of a team.
  • Ability to prioritise workload in response to service needs.
  • Knowledge of the hospital EPR system.
  • Understanding of RTT pathways.
