Job Summary

This is an opportunity for a full time substantive post in the Breast Team as a Oncoplastic Breast Surgeon. This post will be working across UHDB in the Royal Derby Hospital and Queen's Hospital Burton. The post holder must have experience in oncoplastic breast surgery.

Main Duties
  • Provision of a Breast Surgical service to the population of Burton and South Derbyshire, including parts of South Staffordshire and North West Leicestershire.
  • Responsible for continuing care and treatment of patients in your charge and personal performance of clinical duties as agreed in your job plan, allowing for proper delegation to trainee staff.
  • Cover for consultant colleagues annual leave and other authorised absence, including care of patients and supervision of trainee doctors.
  • Professional supervision, training and management of trainee medical staff, carrying out teaching, examination and accreditation duties as required and contributing to postgraduate and continuing medical education activity locally and nationally.
  • Participation in medical audit under local arrangements, the Trust's Clinical Governance processes and in CPD.
  • Involvement in research and supervision of trainees in audit/research.
  • Work on behalf of the Trust such as domiciliary consultations, or services provided by the Trust for other agencies, e.g. the prison service.
  • Participation in Medical Student Teaching Programmes and Examinations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Direct clinical care – average 8.5 patient appointments per week
  • Supporting professional activities – average 1.5 patient appointments per week
  • Deliver clinical sessions at both Queens Hospital Burton and Royal Derby Hospital, working flexibly
Person Specification – Qualifications
  • FRCS
  • GMC registration and licence to practice at time of application
  • Eligible to entry onto GMC specialist register within 6 months of CCST
  • Eligible to reside and work in the UK
Desirable
  • Completion of Oncoplastic Fellowship
  • Further postgraduate qualification relevant to breast surgery
Clinical Experience
  • Trained and experienced in oncoplastic breast surgery
Management and Administrative Experience
  • Ability to organise and manage outpatient priorities/theatre lists
  • Experience of MDT coordination and management
  • Experience of audit
  • Willingness to work within the trust and NHS performance framework and targets
  • Ability to manage and lead junior medical staff
Teaching Experience
  • Experience of and commitment to teaching undergraduates and postgraduates
  • Ability to innovate and develop new technology/methods where appropriate
  • Ability to teach clinical skills
  • Ability to take part in the induction and appraisal of junior medical staff
Research Experience
  • Supervise postgraduate research
  • Apply research outcomes to clinical problems
  • Publications in peer reviewed journals
