Assistant Pastoral Lead – St. Margaret Ward Catholic Academy

St. Margaret Ward Catholic Academy, part of The Newman Catholic Collegiate, is looking for an outstanding individual to join our exceptional pastoral team. The successful candidate will work alongside our Heads of Year and Pastoral Leaders to support students in their day‑to‑day life, enhancing behaviour, attendance and wellbeing, and collaborating closely with families and carers.

We are an 11–18 oversubscribed Catholic academy with a strong record of success, recognised by our September 2021 Ofsted inspection. • Enhance student behaviour, attendance and wellbeing.
• Work with students, staff, families, careers and external agencies.
• Implement Academy and Collegiate policies and procedures.
• Support the existing pastoral structure and teams.
• Manage a caseload of students and maintain clear communication channels.
• Analyse pupil engagement data to propose and implement improvement strategies.
• Supervise students at the Zacchaeus Centre on a rota basis.
• Promote inclusivity and widen participation in line with the Equality and Diversity policy.
• Attend to additional duties as requested by the Principal.

• GCSE English and Mathematics grade C or above (or equivalent).
• A Levels or Level 3 equivalent qualifications.
• University degree or equivalent.

• Experience supporting families and children under 18.
• Knowledge of statutory requirements for young people.
• Experience with Children’s Services.
• Experience of coaching, mentoring and/or supporting young people/families.
• Knowledge of current Ofsted Inspection Regime.

• Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
• Excellent and oral communication, record‑keeping and attention to detail.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build rapport.
• Excellent organisational and pressure‑management skills.
• Independent initiative and willingness to learn systems and procedures.
• Experience of SIMS and CPoms.
• Capacity to challenge poor practice and drive improvement.
