Assistant SENCO – Stoke-on-Trent (ST8)

Nexo Education are working with a school in Stoke-on-Trent (ST8) who are seeking an experienced Assistant SENCO to support the SENDCo with the coordination of provision for pupils with additional needs.

This is an ongoing, long-term role and is open to both qualified teachers and experienced HLTAs / SEN support staff with strong SEND experience.

Role

As Assistant SENCO, you will:

  • Support the SENCO with the day-to-day running of the SEND department
  • Help coordinate provision for pupils with EHCPs and those on SEN Support
  • Maintain and update SEND records, pupil profiles and provision maps
  • Support with referrals, annual reviews and liaison with external agencies
  • Work closely with teaching staff to ensure appropriate strategies are in place in the classroom
  • Monitor the impact of interventions and support programmes
  • Build positive relationships with pupils, staff and parents/carers
  • Contribute to a culture of inclusion and high expectations across the school

The ideal candidate

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has strong experience working with children or young people with SEND in a school setting (essential)
  • Is either a qualified teacher (QTS) or an experienced HLTA / Senior TA / SEN practitioner
  • Has a good understanding of the SEND Code of Practice and the graduated response (Assess-Plan-Do-Review)
  • Is confident with paperwork, record-keeping and using data to track provision and outcomes
  • Has excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Is highly organised, proactive and able to manage a busy workload
  • Is committed to inclusive practice and improving outcomes for pupils with additional needs
