Position: SEN 1:1 Teaching Assistant (Temporary)
Location: Stoke-on-Trent

SEN 1:1 Teaching Assistant required

Academics are working with a delightful and well-resourced primary school located in Stoke-on-Trent who are seeking a skilled and dedicated SEN 1:1 Teaching Assistant to join their supportive team on a supply basis through the agency.

This is a long-term position working closely with a pupil with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, initially on a reduced timetable with the view of progressing to full-time hours until the end of the summer term.

The Role

Provide high-quality 1:1 support for a primary-aged pupil with SEMH needs.
Work initially on a reduced timetable, gradually increasing to full-time as the placement develops.
Support the pupil in accessing learning, managing emotions, and engaging positively with the school environment.
Implement tailored strategies to promote emotional regulation, resilience, and independence.
Work collaboratively with teaching staff, SENCO, and external agencies as needed.
Maintain a calm, consistent, and nurturing approach at all times.

Pupil information

The pupil has identified SEMH needs that can present as challenging behaviour.
On occasions, the pupil may display physical aggression; therefore, experience with de-escalation strategies and a strong understanding of trauma-informed practice is highly beneficial.
The ideal candidate will be confident, patient, and skilled in creating a safe, supportive  Ideal Candidate

Previous experience working with pupils with SEMH or behavioural needs.
Calm, resilient, and able to remain consistent under pressure.
Able to build trusting relationships and implement clear structures and routines.
Flexible, empathetic, and committed to long-term support for the pupil.
