TEACHING ASSISTANT
Full Time, Fixed Term Contract
Starting September 2026
Grade 6 - 32.5 hours.
Cicely Haughton School caters for pupils aged 5-11 years with a range of social, emotional and mental health difficulties (SEMH). The school offers day and boarding places depending on need.
OverviewThe post involves supporting pupils within class groups under the line management of teachers. You will assume responsibility for classes in the occasional absence of teachers. Previous experience in a school would be advantageous, but the successful candidate will have excellent levels of support and supervision. Staff with a sense of humour, high resilience and a commitment to high standards will find the role stimulating and rewarding.
Staff should present as excellent role models and, through positive interactions with children, help develop their self-esteem, self-worth and self-confidence, contributing to their ability to play a positive role in home communities.
Your approach and personal qualities are as important as your experience. Previous SEN experience is not required as relevant training will be provided. Our priority is to appoint outstanding practitioners who will make a positive contribution to the team. In your application, clearly state your strengths and areas of expertise. Responsibilities- Support pupils within class groups under the supervision of teachers.
- Provide cover for classes in the temporary absence of teachers as required.
- Maintain high standards of behaviour, support pupil welfare, and promote inclusive education.
- Model positive behaviour and encourage the development of self-esteem and confidence in pupils.
- Previous experience in a school is advantageous but not essential; relevant training will be provided.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team and engage with pupils in a supportive, respectful manner.
- Resilience, sense of humour, and commitment to continual improvement.
