Are you a passionate and dedicated Qualified Teacher looking for an opportunity to make a meaningful difference to the lives of young people with additional needs? We are seeking an experienced teacher to join an outstanding special school, supporting pupils aged 6-19 with autism spectrum condition (ASC), communication and sensory needs.
This is an exciting opportunity for a creative and adaptable teacher to deliver a broad, balanced and engaging curriculum across a Lifeskills/ASDAN pathway, helping young people develop academically, socially and emotionally while preparing them for greater independence.
Your Role
As a Lifeskills Pathway Class Teacher, you will plan and deliver high-quality, personalised lessons that meet the individual needs, abilities and aspirations of each pupil. You will teach young people of secondary age who may be working significantly below age-related expectations, adapting the curriculum and teaching approaches to ensure every learner can make meaningful progress.
You will support pupils to develop their independence, resilience, communication and confidence, both within the classroom and in preparation for life beyond school. You will also have responsibility for delivering and supporting accreditation, including Entry Level and Functional Skills Maths and English where appropriate.
Working closely with Teaching Assistants, Higher Level Teaching Assistants, pastoral teams and other professionals, you will create a safe, nurturing and inclusive learning environment where pupils feel valued, supported and motivated to succeed.
What We're Looking For
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent teaching qualification.
Experience teaching secondary-aged pupils, particularly those working below age-related expectations.
Experience working with pupils with SEN, ideally including autism/ASC, communication or sensory needs.
Strong knowledge of how to adapt and differentiate the curriculum to meet individual learning needs.
Experience delivering a range of subjects across KS2, KS3 and/or KS4.
Experience delivering Entry Level, Functional Skills, ASDAN or other relevant accreditation is desirable.
Excellent classroom management skills and the ability to establish positive, nurturing relationships.
Understanding of strategies for supporting pupils with anxiety, reluctant engagement and barriers to learning.
Ability to use visual teaching methods, structured approaches and creative resources to engage learners.
A flexible and reflective approach, with high expectations for every pupil.
Strong understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures.
Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Experience supporting and directing Teaching Assistants and other classroom staff.
