Pre-Construction Senior Engineer – Environment North and East

Location: Staffordshire

An opportunity has arisen for a Pre‑Construction Senior Engineer to join Galliford Try. You will be based in or around Staffordshire and travel across multiple sites in the region. In this role you’ll support the Pre‑Construction Engineering Manager to create a robust target cost, risk register and delivery plan before any work starts on site.

• Ensure a robust Engineering Service Enquiry is drafted, reviewed and approved, detailing required Pre‑Construction design deliverables in line with project requirements and the Pre‑Construction Programme.
• Client‑facing, ensuring tender designs align with the client’s requirements so design deliverables can move smoothly into the project delivery teams and the design approval process.
• Apply CDM 2015 and the principles of prevention and safety in design as Principal Designer, supported by the allocated design consultant.
• Carry out PCI gap analysis at the pre‑construction stage, ensuring all parties have the information needed throughout the project lifecycle.
• Coordinate operational input required for Pre‑Construction activities (e.g. delivery planning, programme, constructability, matrix engagement).
• Ensure designs consider cost, quality & buildability, health and safety and compliance with the brief, regulations and standards, including environmental and sustainability requirements.
• Coordinate, challenge and optimise civil and MEICA technical solutions, maintaining compliance with design and regulatory requirements.
• Produce and develop the Design Management Plan (DMP) and Principal Designer Toolkit throughout the pre‑construction phase, updating and handing them over to the operational team.
• Produce thorough design scope (ESE) and ensure engineering services meet quality of Pre‑Construction design deliverables in line with programme requirements.
• Implement the BIM execution plan, which is updated and maintained throughout the project lifecycle.
• Manage a change control system that keeps the Pre‑Construction team ahead of change, assessing impact quickly and decisive about moving forward.
• Ensure all key functions (H&S, Quality, Environmental, etc.) are involved in the design process to confirm a robust final solution and delivery plan before site entry.
• Understand and implement quality, safety and environmental policies and targets.

• Minimum of an HND/HNC in a related engineering discipline (BEng/Meng preferred).
• Strong construction and engineering background, preferably in Water/Wastewater project delivery and design.
