We are recruiting for an experienced Quantity Surveyor to join a major UK energy infrastructure project in Stoke-on-Trent. Working on a large-scale 350MW Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) development, you will be responsible for the commercial management of a significant civils package valued at approximately £18 million
.
This is a fully site-based position and requires someone who is comfortable working closely with the project delivery team, principal contractor, subcontractors and client representatives on a daily basis.
The successful candidate will have a strong civil engineering background and demonstrable experience administering NEC3 or NEC4 contracts
, ideally on major infrastructure, energy, utilities, substation, renewables or BESS projects.
- Commercial management of an £18m civils package from construction through to final account.
- Administration of NEC3/NEC4 contracts, ensuring contractual compliance throughout the project lifecycle.
- Management and assessment of compensation events
, change requests and variations. - Preparation, submission and negotiation of variation accounts and change control documentation.
- Production of monthly CVRs (Cost Value Reconciliations) and commercial reports.
- Monitoring project costs, budgets, forecasts and cash flow.
- Preparation and presentation of financial forecasts and cost reports to senior management.
- Management of subcontractor accounts, including valuations, payments, change control and final accounts.
- Review and negotiation of subcontract terms and conditions.
- Identification and management of commercial risks and opportunities.
- Supporting the project team with contractual advice and commercial guidance.
- Assessment and agreement of applications for payment.
- Forecasting project outturn costs and monitoring profitability.
Management of procurement activities and subcontract package commercial performance. - Supporting dispute avoidance and resolution where required.
- Maintaining accurate commercial records and audit trails.
- Working closely with site management teams to ensure commercial decisions align with project delivery objectives.
- Contributing to early warning processes and risk mitigation strategies in line with NEC contract requirements. NEC contracts place a strong emphasis on proactive risk management and change control.
- Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor within Civil Engineering
, Infrastructure, Energy, Utilities, Substations or Renewables projects. - Strong working knowledge of NEC3 and/or NEC4 contracts
. - Experience managing compensation events, variations and change management processes under NEC contracts.
- Previous experience producing CVRs, forecasting and commercial reporting.
Experience managing subcontract accounts from procurement to final account. - Strong negotiation and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to work independently on site and support operational teams.
- Full UK Driving Licence and ability to commute to site daily.
- Degree-qualified in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline preferred.
- Previous BESS, HV, Substation, Power, Utilities or Renewable Energy project experience.
- Experience working for principal contractors or major civils subcontractors.
- Understanding of early warning procedures, compensation events and programme interaction under NEC contracts.
