Position: Probation Service Officer On-Trent and Staffordshire

Job Purpose/Overview

Probation Service Officer (PSO) – responsible for managing people on probation before and after sentencing.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assessment, sentence implementation, offender management and reporting.
  • Case‑management support for a full range of people on probation using service procedures.
  • Assessing and managing risks; providing information to courts and working with agencies across the justice system.
  • Supporting offenders with housing and employment advice, and offering emotional support and listening.
Requirements & Qualifications

• Empathetic, patient, resilient and organised.

• Good writing skills – able to produce clear and accurate reports to tight deadlines.

• No degree required; experience working with people who have social or personal difficulties preferred.

• Legal right to live and work in the UK.

• Eligible for a Skilled Worker visa prior to 22 Jul 2025 if applicable.

Salary and Pay Progression

Starting salary will be £28,064 with annual pay progression via the Competency Based Framework.

New entrants join on the minimum of the pay band; existing Civil Servants will have salary adjusted according to department rules.
