Are you passionate about the environment, flood risk management and sustainable drainage? Do you want to contribute towards shaping the future of a growing city? Stoke-on-Trent City Council is looking for a Flood Risk Management Apprentice to help us tackle the increasing challenges of flood risk and surface water management.

This is a five‑year post which will be completed as part of a level 6 apprenticeship. The successful candidate will gain a comprehensive understanding of flood risk management, develop valuable technical and professional skills, achieve a recognised level 6 qualification, and make a meaningful contribution to protecting communities from flood risk while building a rewarding career within Stoke-on-Trent City Council.

• Assist in delivering the Council’s duties as a Lead Local Flood Authority (LLFA)
• Assist in investigating local flooding incidents and drainage issues
• Assist with responding to planning applications, land drainage consents, flooding incidents
• Assist with data collection, reporting, and analysis of key flood risk infrastructure across the city
• Assist with the development of flood alleviation projects and studies
• Familiarise, learn, and apply relevant legislation and industry standards
• Collaborate with key stakeholders and contribute towards managing flood risk

• Have a general knowledge of flood risk management, the environment, and the construction industry
• Be eager to learn and develop new technical and professional skills
• Have strong problem‑solving, numerical and analytical skills
• Have effective written and verbal communication skills
• Be an inclusive team member who can collaborate with internal colleagues and external stakeholders
• Demonstrate a positive attitude, initiative, and a commitment to learning
• Commit to completing a level 6 apprenticeship course
