Part-Time Speech and Language Therapist – Independent Specialist Day CollegeLocation: Stoke-on-Trent (ST2)Start Date: September 2025Contract: Academic year, term-time only (Sept 2025 – July 2026, likely to continue year-on-year)Hours: 1 day per week (potential for additional days, subject to confirmation)Rate: Dependent on experience / bandingThe RoleWe are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Speech and Language Therapist (SaLT) to join an Independent Specialist Day College supporting young people aged 16–25 with a range of learning difficulties and disabilities, including moderate to profound complex needs and additional diagnoses such as autism spectrum disorder (ASD).This
is an opportunity to make a genuine difference in a setting that places a strong emphasis on community engagement, preparing students for life beyond education, and enabling them to achieve their personal aspirations.Key Responsibilities
- Conduct assessments and produce detailed reports to inform EHCP reviews, including evidence to support changes to student needs.
- Develop, implement, and monitor individualised therapy programmes, with clear targets and progress tracking.
- Provide direct interventions and support to students, promoting communication development in both educational and community settings.
- Collaborate closely with the college’s communication team (3 TAs, 2 teachers, and an AI specialist) as well as pathway leads and curriculum heads.
- Deliver training – both formal and informal – to teaching assistants and wider staff to ensure therapy strategies are embedded in daily practice.
- Liaise with parents and carers where appropriate to ensure continuity of support.
- Use Makaton as part of your communication approach, supporting the college’s commitment to accessible communication for all students.
- Degree in Speech and Language Therapy and HCPC registration.
- Experience working with young people with complex needs and/or autism.
- Skilled in delivering both direct interventions and indirect support through programme development and staff training.
- Confident using Makaton.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Flexible, term-time working pattern.
- Supportive multidisciplinary team environment.
