Health Care Support Worker – Community Respiratory Service

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Health Care Support Worker to join the Community Respiratory Service within Midlands Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust. This post is ideal for someone who enjoys working independently, delivering person-centred care, and making a real difference to people living with respiratory conditions in their local community.

A core component of this role is undertaking venepuncture and delivering TB screening pathways, including IGRA blood testing for adults and young people aged 16 years and over. Working four mornings per week (Monday to Thursday), you will play a key role in delivering high-quality respiratory and TB screening services across Stoke‑on‑Trent and North Staffordshire.

As part of our specialist multidisciplinary Respiratory Team, you will support the assessment, monitoring and care of patients with respiratory conditions. You will work alongside Respiratory Nurses, Physiotherapists and Assistant Practitioners, contributing to the delivery of safe, effective and compassionate care.

Main duties of the job
  • Deliver and support respiratory and TB screening clinics.
  • Undertake venepuncture and IGRA blood testing as a core and essential component of the role.
  • Support tuberculosis screening programmes, including work with asylum seeker and migrant populations.
  • Assist with respiratory assessments and diagnostic pathways.
  • Support pulmonary rehabilitation and patient self‑management programmes.
  • Monitor patients, recognise deterioration and escalates concerns appropriately.
  • Maintain accurate electronic clinical records and support clinic administration.
Qualifications & Training
  • NVQ Level 3 in Health & Social Care (or equivalent experience)
  • Care Certificate (or willingness to complete)
  • Evidence of venepuncture competency (or willingness to undertake training)
  • Respiratory or rehabilitation‑related training
Experience
  • Experience working in a patient‑facing healthcare environment
  • Experience working as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Experience of phlebotomy or high‑volume blood clinics
  • Experience in TB screening (IGRA)
  • Experience working with children or young people
  • Experience working in community settings
Professional Requirements
  • Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle for work purposes.
