We are looking for an enthusiastic band 6 midwife to support our Infant Feeding team to cover a maternity leave secondment.

The infant feeding specialist midwife will work closely with the Infant Feeding Lead(s) (IFLs) to assist and support the implementation of the maternity services infant feeding strategy for maintaining and sustaining the UNICEF Baby Friendly Initiative UK Hospital accreditation through initiating new ideas, practices and approaches to direct clinical care of mothers and babies, embedding good practice.

They will lead in the clinical area, acting as an Infant Feeding resource, providing expert infant feeding knowledge and support to the on-going development of all staff, demonstrating commitment to best evidence-based practice, challenging staff if best practice is not being demonstrated.

They will also work with the IFLs to provide specialist infant feeding training throughout the service for all staff that meet new mothers and their families.

To work closely with the IFL'S to initiate and embed new ideas, practices and approaches to direct clinical care of mothers and babies

To ensure that all staff encourage and support women to develop an early relationship with their unborn baby.

To ensure that all families receive support and information to enable them to make an informed choice regarding feeding.

To work as an autonomous midwifery practitioner and provide an effective link to the wider networks for breastfeeding support

To undertake clinical audit using appropriate Baby Friendly Initiative audit tools to evaluate and develop infant feeding practices with maternity services.

To facilitate group sessions for families both in pregnancy and the postnatal period

Support women in feeding their babies using evidence-based information, in line with the Trust Infant Feeding Policy

Support women with more complex breastfeeding needs e.g.; multiple births, premature babies

Instigate & implement feeding management plans where required and review.

Ensure accurate record keeping is kept on the Maternity notes system

Provide breastfeeding support in all other clinical areas when required e.g.;

Children's Wards, Neonatal Unit or Emergency Department (ED)
