We are looking for an enthusiastic band 6 midwife to support our Infant Feeding team to cover a maternity leave secondment.
Theinfantfeedingspecialistmidwifewillworkcloselywiththe Infant Feeding Lead (s) (IFLs) to assist and support the implementation of the maternity services infant feeding strategy for maintaining and sustaining the UNICEF Baby Friendly Initiative UK Hospital accreditation through initiating new ideas, practices and approaches to direct clinical care of mothers and babies, embedding good practice.
They will lead in the clinical area, acting as an Infant Feeding resource, providing expertinfantfeedingknowledgeandsupporttotheon-goingdevelopmentofallstaff, demonstrating commitment to best evidence-based practice, challenging staff if best practice is not being demonstrated.
Theywillalso workwiththeIFLstoprovidespecialistinfantfeedingtraining throughouttheserviceforallstaffthatmeetnewmothersandtheir families.
Main duties of the job- ToworkcloselywiththeIFL’S toinitiateandembednewideas,practices and approaches to direct clinical care of mothers and babies
- Toensurethatallstaffencourageandsupportwomentodevelopanearly relationship with their unborn baby.
- Toensurethat allfamiliesreceivesupport andinformationtoenablethemtomake an informed choice regarding feeding.
- Toworkasanautonomousmidwiferypractitionerandprovideaneffectivelinktothe wider networks for breastfeeding support
- Toundertakeclinicalauditusingappropriate Baby Friendly Initiativeaudittools to evaluate and develop infant feeding practices with maternity services.
- Tofacilitategroupsessionsforfamiliesbothinpregnancyandthepostnatal period
- Supportwomeninfeedingtheirbabiesusingevidence-based information,inlinewith the Trust Infant Feeding Policy
- Supportwomenwithmorecomplexbreastfeedingneeds e.g.;multiplebirths, premature babies
- Instigate&implementfeedingmanagementplanswhererequiredand review.
- Ensureaccuraterecordkeepingiskeptonthe Maternitynotes system
- Providebreastfeedingsupportinallotherclinicalareaswhenrequired e.g.;

- A minimum of 12 months band 6 experience within UK maternity services
- Willingness to undertake training specific to role
- Experience of working within an infant feeding team
