Help shape the SIGN guideline on preventing cardiovascular disease

If you have lived experience of cardiovascular disease or have been affected by risk factors such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, smoking, or a family history of heart disease, you can join the guideline development group for the SIGN guideline on preventing cardiovascular disease. You will share your experiences and views, help the group consider what matters most to people, families and communities when preventing cardiovascular disease, and help ensure the guideline reflects those priorities.

Medical or research experience is not required; we will provide support and information to help you take part.

We need participants to take part in September 2026.

  • Direct experience of the condition (e.g., as someone who has or has had the condition, or the carer or family member of someone who has the condition)
  • An interest in improving people’s experience of healthcare
  • Time to commit to the work of the group (e.g., attend meetings and comment on guideline drafts)
  • A willingness to convey the views of people with lived experience not represented on the group
  • The ability to put views across clearly, constructively and sensitively, taking into account other people’s responsibilities, views and experiences
  • A willingness to become familiar with medical terms and phrases
