2nd Line Project Engineer

This post is responsible for the management, investigation and resolution of a range of IM&T issues within the local health economy, primarily providing second‑line technical support for desktop infrastructure, software applications and related technologies.
Responsibilities- Provide second‑line IT support remotely and on‑site to S&SHIS customer organisations and users.
- Deliver customer‑focused IM&T support within the services served by the S&SHIS.
- Partner with third‑party support to resolve technical problems with desktop computing equipment and software.
- Install and configure new computing equipment, peripherals and software on behalf of customers.
- Accurately document and maintain records of additions, modifications and removals of ICT infrastructure components and IT user accounts in the appropriate information systems.
- Manage incidents, log and close calls, and configure systems within the HIS service‑management software.
- Provide a high standard of customer service in a professional manner.
- Maintain and repair hardware and software applications to meet customer and business needs.
- Audit, document and maintain records of ICT infrastructure changes.
- Advise users and IT professionals on IT policy and procedures.
- Supervise junior staff members.
- Foundation Degree/HND or extensive, relevant work experience.
- Advanced ECDL or equivalent.
- Foundation Certificate in ITIL Service Management.
- Microsoft accredited training for Supporting and Troubleshooting Windows 10.
- Degree in an IT‑related subject, or equivalent.
- Intermediate Certificate in ITIL Service Management (Service Operation) or equivalent knowledge.
- Formal Customer Service Training.
- Experience in a Service Desk/IT Support role.
- Experience in a Microsoft‑based technical support role.
- Experience with current Microsoft operating systems.
- Experience supporting current Microsoft desktop applications.
- Experience in Healthcare IT.
- Experience supporting current Microsoft networking technologies.
- Experience with thin‑client technologies.
- Experience with Enterprise Management tools such as Microsoft System Centre, including package design and deployment.
- Works independently and as part of a team, providing support when necessary.
- Accepts challenging assignments with a positive attitude.
- Sustains high‑quality effort over long periods.
- Knowledge of supporting desktop hardware and peripherals via remote support and on‑site visits.
- Good knowledge of Microsoft desktop OS and applications.
- Excellent customer service and telephone skills.
- Adapts terminology to audience to aid understanding.
- Advanced computer literacy in Microsoft Office and other software.
- Manages desktop images, installs and upgrades through Enterprise Management tools such as Microsoft System Centre.
Job Requirements
- Mobility across all geographical areas supported by S&SHIS (primarily Staffordshire and Shropshire).
- Full UK driving licence; vehicle driver where required; S&SHIS supplied where available.
- Advanced keyboard skills for accurate data entry.
- Continuous VDU use and prolonged sitting.
- Ability to use fine tools for hardware maintenance.
- Occasional lifting of equipment such as PCs and printers.
- Work in dusty, dirty or cramped environments when dealing with PC equipment, networking or cabling.
- Frequent use of road transportation.
