Job overview
Ward 201 is the inpatient ward of the cancer centre at the Royal Stoke University Hospital.
The ward consists of a 40 bed in patient unit and an emergency assessment unit which has 3 assessment beds and 6 ambulatory chairs.
We work closely with other departments within the cancer centre consisting of the Radiotherapy Department and Ward 202 chemotherapy outpatients.
We offer a service to any patient receiving cancer treatment within the trust for oncology and haematology disorders that for different reasons require acute medical and Nursing input.
All of our team members are facilitated with their clinical development. We offer training which includes line care consisting of PICC and Hickman line competencies and you will also be supported in gaining you SACT passport a nationally recognised certification to be able to safely deliver chemotherapy.
Your development is important to us. The wards clinical educators have a learning contract plan to assist your development and achieve your clinical competencies. The ward also encourages participation in trust events and also involvement with external professional bodies related to Cancer/Haematological care.
It is important to us that you are supported in your role we have a family tree, ward meetings are held monthly and additional information is cascaded via a newsletter or email. We celebrate our successes and utilise the trusts values.
Main duties of the jobThe treatments received at the cancer centre may include Chemotherapy, Radiotherapy, Immunotherapy, Brachytherapy, Symptom control, Palliative care and treatment of Haematological disorders.
Patient’s admissions to the ward are via various routes consisting of a triaged admission to the emergency assessment unit, referral from The emergency department or via Clinic.
We pride ourselves on the high quality, evidence-based care that we deliver on the ward to achieve the best possible patient outcomes. As a valued team member you will be required to keep yourself updated with best evidenced based practise. On the ward we have link nurses for all aspects of care. We participate in internal and external audits to ensure best care is delivered and any learning actions are addressed.

Person specification Communication Essential criteria- Evidence of excellent communication skills
- Understanding of the requirement for excellent communication in the Ward environment
- Understanding of quality care
- evidence of knowledge of accurate patient assessments ,action plans and audits
- Registered Nurse on NMC Register
- Degree in Nursing or health/nursing related studies or evidence of continuing academic progression
