Job overview

Senior Sister/Charge Nurse to lead a 36‑bed critical care unit, acting as Unit Co‑ordinator and overseeing unit management responsibilities.

Main responsibilities
  • Facilitate evidence‑based nursing and mid‑wifery practice across the multidisciplinary team.
  • Serve as a credible professional role model, encouraging personal and professional development.
  • Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to provide comprehensive patient care.
  • Report directly to the Matron and manage day‑to‑day operational duties.
  • Exchange verbal and written information with patients, staff and carers with tact and diplomacy.
  • Assess and pre‑treat specialist patients, initiating appropriate actions and investigating urgent clinical conditions.
  • Complete root cause analysis promptly, ensuring action plans are implemented and evaluated.
  • Ensure appropriate systems are in place for safe admissions and timely discharges.
Person specification – Qualifications
  • NMC Registration.
  • Degree in Nursing or equivalent academic qualification.
  • Post‑registration Critical Care Course.
  • Mentorship course or equivalent.
  • Masters study or degree (desirable).
Person specification – Experience
  • Minimum 3 years post‑registration experience in Critical Care, including at least 2 years in a leadership role.
  • Evidence of leadership experience.
  • Evidence of quality improvement initiatives.
