A Band 6 senior staff nurse post on Ward 117, the 14-bed Infectious Diseases inpatient unit at University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust. The post-holder acts as nurse in charge day to day, carries out in-reaching and takes part in audit and training. They sit in a ward leadership team of three band 6 nurses and a band 7, and take on management work such as rostering, complaints and risk.
Two years at band 5 on the Infectious Diseases Unit must be held before applying.
- Acting as nurse in charge on a daily basis
- In-reaching duties
- Taking part in audits
- Taking part in training
- Financial management of the ward
- Managing sickness and absence
- Carrying out staff appraisals
- Managing DATIX incident reporting and risk assessments
- Quality monitoring and improvement
- Managing the duty roster
- Managing complaints
- Leading ward meetings and managing complex situations
Registration & licences
- NMC registration
- Two years at band 5 RN level on the Infectious Diseases Unit (Ward 117)
- Experience coordinating staffing levels and managing patient flow
- Excellent communication skills
- Student assessor
- Knowledge of PPE for HCID
- Evidence of leadership development
- Experience of quality monitoring or improvement
- Development packages to help staff fulfil their potential
