Job Title:
Mechanical Inspector (Nuclear)
Location: Stoke (2 days per week on site) / Hybrid (3 days per week)

Role OverviewOur client is seeking an experienced Mechanical Inspector to support nuclear-related projects, ensuring mechanical fabrication, installation, and inspection activities comply with all applicable standards, specifications, and regulatory requirements. The role will involve hands‑on inspection of mechanical components including welds, castings, and forgings, working within a highly regulated nuclear environment. The successful candidate will provide assurance that all inspection activities meet nuclear quality, safety, and compliance expectations.
Key Responsibilities- Carry out mechanical inspection activities on welds, castings, and forgings
- Perform and witness inspections in line with approved Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs)
- Verify compliance with drawings, specifications, codes, and nuclear quality requirements
- Conduct and record Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) activities as applicable
- Identify, raise, and support close‑out of non-conformances (NCRs)
- Review inspection records, reports, and quality documentation
- Liaise with engineering, quality, and project teams to resolve inspection and quality issues
- Ensure all inspection activities are fully documented and suitable for audit and regulatory review
- Promote and maintain high standards of nuclear safety and quality assurance
Candidates must hold the following certifications:
- PCN Level 2 DPI (Welds / Castings / Forgings)
- PCN Level 2 MPI (Welds / Castings / Forgings)
- PCN Level 2 UT (Welds / Castings)
- CSWIP / PCN Weld Inspection
- PCN Visual Inspection
- Proven experience as a Mechanical Inspector within nuclear or other highly regulated industries
- Strong understanding of mechanical fabrication and inspection processes
- Experience inspecting welds, castings, and forgings
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and standards
- Familiarity with nuclear quality systems, ITPs, and inspection records
- Strong attention to detail with a structured and methodical approach
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams
- 2 days per week on site in Stoke
- 3 days per week hybrid / remote
- Additional site attendance may be required depending on inspection activities
- Nuclear experience is essential
- Candidates must have the right to work in the UK
- Security clearance may be required or the ability to obtain clearance
- Strict adherence to nuclear safety, quality, and regulatory standards is mandatory
