Formulation Chemist – Research and Development

Working pattern: Full-time, site-based |

Are you an experienced Formulation Chemist looking to develop innovative products for the construction sector? We are looking for two practical, technically confident chemists to join our Research and Development team at our Stoke-on-Trent R&D Lab, supporting our range of dispersion adhesives, cement-based adhesives, grouts and levelling compounds.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys problem solving, managing varied technical projects and working closely with both technical and non-technical teams to bring new and improved products to market.

What the role involves:
  • Develop and optimise formulations to meet performance, cost, sustainability, health and safety, and project timeline requirements
  • Support the successful introduction of new products into manufacturing, working closely with Production, Quality, Sales, Marketing and Technical teams
What you’ll bring
  • A degree in Chemistry or a related science discipline, or membership of the Royal Society of Chemistry
Key responsibilities
  • A minimum of five years’ experience (can include academic experience), formulating products for the construction or similar sector
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities
  • Confidence communicating with colleagues across technical and non-technical teams
  • A practical, curious approach with the drive to improve products, processes and performance
  • Investigate raw materials and alternative sourcing options to improve resilience, efficiency and sustainability
  • Provide analytical support to troubleshoot technical issues, respond to customer enquiries and support product performance
  • Conduct competitor product analysis and benchmark testing to European standards
  • Maintain accurate documentation and reporting using company IT systems
  • Work in line with company procedures, including BS EN ISO 9001, to ensure integrity and reliability
  • Lead or support special projects requested by the UK Technical Director or R&D Manager
