Job Description & How to Apply Below
Location: Stoke-on-Trent

Moving into adulthood can be challenging for any young person. For those who have experienced trauma or face social, emotional, and mental health challenges, having the right support can make all the difference.

We are looking for caring, reliable and motivated Children's Support Workers to join a supported living service for young people aged 16-18. This is a full-time, permanent opportunity to work alongside young people as they develop confidence, learn essential life skills, and prepare for independent living.

This isn't a role focused on personal care. Instead, it's about providing guidance, encouragement and practical support to help young people navigate everyday life.

The young people living within the service are largely independent, with varying levels of support needs. Some may only require occasional guidance, whilst others benefit from more consistent encouragement and emotional support.

Many of the young people have experienced difficult life circumstances, and their additional needs are primarily linked to trauma, emotional wellbeing and mental health. Your role will be to help them recognise their strengths, overcome challenges and work towards their goals.

No two days are the same, but you could find yourself:

  • Supporting young people to develop important life skills such as cooking, cleaning, budgeting and shopping.
  • Helping them build the confidence needed to manage their own home and daily responsibilities.
  • Accompanying them to appointments, activities and community-based opportunities.
  • Assisting with job searches, applications, interview preparation and CV writing.
  • Providing encouragement during difficult periods and celebrating successes along the way.
  • Building trusted, professional relationships that provide consistency and stability.
  • Working as part of a dedicated team to create a safe, positive and supportive environment.

This role follows a three-week rolling rota and includes long-day sleep-in shifts.

  • Start: 9:00am
  • Working hours:

    9:00am - 11:00pm
  • Sleep-in: 11:00pm - 7:00am
  • Working hours:

    7:00am - 9:30am
  • Finish: 9:30am

While sleep-ins are generally quiet, there may be occasions when a young person requires support during the night. Any time spent actively supporting young people overnight is paid.

We're interested in speaking with people who genuinely enjoy supporting young people and helping them succeed.

  • Strong relationship-building skills and an understanding of professional boundaries.
  • Confidence supporting young people with social, emotional and mental health needs.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a team.
  • A genuine commitment to helping young people become happy, confident and independent adults.

The support you provide could help a young person secure their first job, manage their own finances, move into independent accommodation, or simply believe in themselves again.
