Specialty Area Teacher – Social Studies (DeKalb Alternative Program)
DeKalb County School District seeks a 6‑12 Social Studies Teacher to implement high academic expectations, collaborate with team members, and maintain strong written and verbal communication skills.
Responsibilities- Teach grade‑relevant and subject‑specific curriculum.
- Develop and implement lesson plans and activities in person and virtually, providing written evidence of preparation.
- Communicate with district personnel, students, and parents by phone, email, or video conference.
- Create an in‑person and virtual classroom environment conducive to learning.
- Use internet and web‑based technology for instruction and collaboration.
- Assess, document, and prepare reports on achievement progress, grades, classroom performance, assessments, and attendance.
- Supervise and manage student behavior per the Student Code of Conduct and handbook.
- Participate in student development and achievement conferences with parents, students, counselors, teachers, and administrators.
- Perform general instruction duties such as ordering materials, attending required meetings, and attending professional learning sessions/training.
- Direct the work of the paraprofessional or instructional aide as needed.
- Maintain prompt and regular work attendance.
- Identify educational needs and provide instruction to students with varying exceptionalities.
- Instruct students based on IEPs; assess, monitor, and report progress, and communicate with families.
- Serve as case manager for students with disabilities, preparing and maintaining relevant paperwork and facilitating IEP meetings.
- Follow Georgia professional code of educator ethics in all work‑related activities.
- Bachelor’s degree from a Georgia Professional Standards Commission approved accredited college or university in the relevant educational field.
- Valid Professional Standards Commission approved teaching certificate in the appropriate educational field.
- Special education teachers who issue grades must hold appropriate certification in service (Special Education, Adaptive curriculum, and/or Special Education General Curriculum), content certification areas, and the educator's teaching assignment must align with the Georgia Professional Standards Commission approved teaching certificate.
- Valid Georgia Professional Standards Commission approved subject‑specific endorsements required.
- Minimum education requirements based on CTAE specializations.
- Must pass the GACE Education Ethics Assessment.
- Minimum two (2) years of verifiable industrial work experience or industry licensure required.
Salary Grade E (Schedule).
