Under general supervision, coordinates, plans, and implements school-based medical support for medically fragile students with disabilities as specified in physician’s orders and standards of care. Provides specialized nursing care to students with special needs or medical fragility, ensuring access to federally mandated education. Performs medical procedures as required in accordance with doctor’s orders and educational plans. Works independently with minimal supervision, applying intermediate-level knowledge to provide care for students.
EssentialJob Duties
- Provides direct nursing care to medically fragile exceptional education students, including performing medical procedures and administering medications as prescribed by a physician.
- Conducts and coordinates care for exceptional education students with an Individualized Education Program (IEP) and prescribed medical needs.
- Recognizes and responds to emergency situations promptly, ensuring student safety.
- Maintains open communication with parents, staff, and healthcare providers regarding student health and educational needs.
- Trains school staff on medical procedures and emergency response protocols relevant to student health issues.
- Participates in the development and implementation of health care plans for students with special needs.
- Ensures compliance with health care policies and maintains operational standards within the educational setting.
- Identifies problems and resolves moderately complex issues related to the care of students.
- Makes minor modifications to processes to enhance the performance of the department as appropriate.
- Performs additional duties as assigned.
- LPN:
- Completion of an accredited Licensed Practical Nurse program.
- Valid State of Georgia LPN license required.
- Valid certificate in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) required.
- RN:
- Bachelor’s degree in Nursing, Health Sciences, or a related field.
- Minimum of three (3) years of pediatric nursing experience required.
- Valid State of Georgia registered nurse license required.
- Valid certificate in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) required.
