Whittaker Engineering are recruiting an Assistant Welding Engineer to join our busy HSEQ department.
This role would be based full time at our Stonehaven offices, supporting the Responsible Welding Coordinator (RWC) in coordination of all welding-related activities and their requirements.
Applicants must be degree qualified in relevant technical discipline or demonstrable industry experience in a relevant field - welding, fabrication or NDT.
Applicants must also have: experience/knowledge of NDT and Fabrication, a working knowledge of ISO 9001 and ISO 3834, a working knowledge of Quality Assurance systems and an extensive knowledge of Industry Standards.
Desirable qualifications are: TWI diploma at Technologist Level progressing to Engineer Level, Level II PCN in Radiographic Interpretation, CSWIP 3.1 Welding Inspection progressing to 3.2.
The ideal candidate will also have strong oral and written communication skills.
Duties include but may not be restricted to:
- Adherence to the Quality Management Systems ISO 9001 & 3834-2
- Assist with the maintenance of ISO 3834 certification and its upkeep
- Assist with review of client, technical and contractual requirements
- Ensure client purchase order and drawing requirements are fully met
- Assist with writing and developing new weld procedures
- Preparation of draft work instructions/method statements
- Ensuring forthcoming work or estimated work is covered by existing weld procedures
- Assist with supervision of welders and weld procedure qualifications/ weld monitoring
- Liaise with subcontractors i.e. NDT Technicians and any external testing companies
- Liaise with charge hands, foremen and other tradesmen
- Ensure welders are qualified in the process they are working on and that welder qualifications are up to date
- Monitoring welding equipment suitability, maintenance and calibration
- Selection, suitability and control of materials and welding consumables
- Assist with inspection and testing - before, during and after welding
- Ensure identification and traceability is maintained throughout the welding process
- Work with/advise the engineering department during welding related design issues and engineering problems
- Ensure QHSE policies and procedures are adhered to
- Reporting malpractice or infringement of company rules
- Looking ahead – improvements to working practices and tooling
- Spotting areas of deficiencies in the organisation and working practices and suggesting workable improvements
- Ensure you work safely and do not endanger yourself, those around you, or the environment
Salary dependant on experience.
Excellent working conditions, remuneration package and benefits are available.
All applicants must be eligible to live and work in the UK, and available to commute daily to our facility in Stonehaven.
