Job Description

Situated in the Northeast of Scotland, Aberdeenshire is a beautiful and historic region, encapsulating the rugged mountains of the Cairngorms and breath-taking coastal scenery. The wider Aberdeen City and Shire Region boasts a number of excellent facilities including world renowned golf courses, a top league football team, the stunning river Dee and river Don, excellent transport links (including proximity to Aberdeen International Airport and Aberdeen Harbour and ferry terminal), a range of local and regional shops as well as the breath-taking scenery of the hills.

In fact the area has something for everyone.

One of the most dynamic and unique regions of the country, Aberdeenshire is a great place to live, work and visit. We believe we have something to offer people of all ages - a quality of life which is hard to find elsewhere.

These post provides an excellent opportunity for Trainee, Graduate, and experienced Chartered Planners to join the Development Management Section within the Planning & Economy Service to assist and contribute to the delivery of a high-quality planning service within Aberdeenshire.

We are looking for a motivated, enthusiastic, and highly organised individual with excellent written and verbal communication skills. You will be educated to degree level in Planning or equivalent such as Geography or Architecture or working towards an appropriate post graduate qualification that enables progression to membership of the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) or supported post graduate RTPI recognised MSc planning course.

The role of Planner represents an opportunity to work as part of a team providing a Development Management service within Aberdeenshire. The role offers opportunities for being responsible for the assessing and determining of a varied caseload of planning applications and pre-applications enquiries, liaising with colleagues in other Services of the Council and external organisations in connection with development management matters and providing advice on planning matters to the public, developers, and Elected Members of the Council.

A flexible "blended" approach to working is currently used with some home working practices developed during the Covid pandemic and extensive use of technology sitting alongside office based working, a requirement to undertake site visits, and attend offices for team collaborative working and meetings and training events as necessary. This flexible “blended” approach to working is likely to continue as the Service remains committed to working within an enhanced digital environment.

Initial work locations are Stonehaven and Ellon/Peterhead.
