OverviewThe Department of Neurology at the Stony Brook Renaissance School of Medicine is recruiting a Vascular Neurologist to join our team. The Stony Brook Comprehensive Stroke Center has distinguished itself as an innovator in the clinical neurosciences and is a premier site on Long Island for providing care for patients with a wide range of cerebrovascular conditions. The program has exhibited consistent growth, reflecting a commitment and strong collaborative relationship between the Departments of Emergency Medicine, Neurology, Neurosurgery, and Radiology.
The Comprehensive Stroke Center received Joint Commission recertification in the Spring of 2021. It is also host to Suffolk County’s only mobile stroke unit program, initially launched in April 2019. Ongoing initiatives include the implementation of outpatient TIA clinics to increase access to acute outpatient care and reduce stroke rates in our community.
- Providing inpatient and consultative care to patients with a range of cerebrovascular conditions.
- Evaluating cerebrovascular patients in the outpatient setting.
- Providing acute tele‑stroke evaluations through the mobile stroke unit program and with partner hospitals and free standing emergency rooms.
- Participating in the training and teaching of residents, fellows, and medical students.
- Participating in clinical research activities and collaborating on research projects as desired.
- Required: MD or MD/PhD degree (or foreign equivalent); eligibility for New York State licensure; completion of an accredited Neurology residency program; board certified or board eligible in Neurology and Vascular Neurology; strong interest in an academic career.
- Preferred: Fellowship training in Vascular Neurology including practical experience in tele‑stroke; strong research interest.
