Position Summary

At Stony Brook Medicine, our Post Doctoral Neuropsychologist provides clinical consultations and evaluations of adult and pediatric patients with neurological and neurodevelopmental disorders.

Responsibilities
  • Supervised administration, scoring, and interpretation of neuropsychological assessment measures.
  • Supervised report writing based on the above.
  • Supervised interviewing and consultation with patients and families.
  • Supervised involvement in psychotherapy and/or family support groups related to neurological and neuropsychiatric disorders (e.g., epilepsy, ADHD).
  • Participation in departmentally based research programs.
  • Supervision of graduate students in psychology.
  • Participation in professional advocacy activities.
Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Possession of a Doctorate in Psychology from a program accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA).

OR

  • Current predoctoral internship in psychology accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA) and a letter from the training director documenting the applicant's completion of all degree requirements by the fellowship start date.
  • Extensive experience in the administration, scoring, and interpretation of neuropsychological measures, principally with children/adolescents but also with adults.
  • Extensive experience in clinical interviewing of children, adolescents, parents, and individual adults.
  • Preliminary experience in neuropsychological report writing.
  • Eligibility for Psychology Limited Permit in New York State.
  • The Stony Brook Neuropsychology Service is a participant program of the Association of Postdoctoral Programs in Clinical Neuropsychology (APPCN).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Extensive experience in neuropsychological report writing.
  • Relevant coursework in neuroanatomy, neuropsychology, psychometric theory, statistics.
  • Demonstration of scholarship in neuropsychology equivalent to the level of study, i.e., early career research.
  • Experience in supervised psychotherapy.
  • Experience with consultation liaison and team-focused work in a medical and/or psychiatric setting.
  • Inpatient and outpatient clinical experience.

Environment and Requirements
  • Stony Brook Medicine is a smoke-free environment. Smoking is prohibited anywhere on campus, including parking lots and outdoor areas on the premises.
  • All hospital positions may be subject to changes in shifts as necessary.
  • This position may require the wearing of respiratory protection, which may prohibit the wearing of facial hair.
  • This position may be designated as "essential." When the hospital faces an institutional emergency, employees in such positions may be required to remain at their work location or report to work to protect, recover, and continue operations at Stony Brook Medicine, Stony Brook University Hospital and related facilities.
Pre-Employment Requirements
  • Successfully complete a pre-employment physical examination and obtain medical clearance from Stony Brook Medicine's Employee Health Services.
  • Complete electronic references check with a minimum of three professional references.
  • Successfully complete a 4-panel drug screen.
  • Meet regulatory requirements for pre-employment screenings.
  • Provide a copy of any required New York State license(s)/certificate(s).

Failure to comply with any of the above requirements could result in a delayed start date and/or revocation of the employment offer.

The hiring department will be responsible for any fee incurred for examination.
