Clinical Laboratory Technologist - Cytogenetics Position Summary

At Stony Brook Medicine, a TH Clinical Laboratory Technologist is a valuable member of our team, who provides clinical services to our patient population. Responsible for quality control, laboratory safety, monitoring and operation of laboratory equipment. Abide by all regulations related to patient confidentiality and by all NYS Department of Health and CAP regulations. • Sterile tissue culture techniques for the preparation of human cells (Amniotic Fluid, Blood (stimulated & unstimulated), Bone marrow, Products of conception, Tumors & Lymph nodes) for determination of constitutional or acquired chromosome abnormalities.
• Microscopic analysis of banded chromosome preparations.
• Karyotyping of banded chromosomes for determination of chromosome complement.
• FISH protocols and related microscopic analysis for constitutional and acquired abnormalities: i.e., Cancer probes, Direct Amniocentesis, CEP & LSI probes.
• Banding protocols:
  Giemsa-Trypsin, NOR, C-banding, Fluorescent staining.
• Digital imaging of stained and fluorescent chromosomes and nuclei.

Preferred:
Certification in Cytogenetics.
