Child Life Gaming Specialist; per diem

Position Summary

At Stony Brook Medicine, aRecreational Therapy Specialist/Child Life Gaming Specialist is a valuable member of our team, who provides quality child life services to children and families in assigned work area(s) throughout Stony Brook Children’s Hospital and who provides clinical services to our patient population. Qualified candidates will demonstrate superior patient care and possess outstanding communication skills while adhering to our high standard of excellence.

Duties of a Child Life Gaming Specialist may include the following but are not limited to:

• Assist children in the development of coping skills through game play and recreation.
• Collaborate with child life staff in development and implementation of new and effective digital programming.
• Work in conjunction with health care team members to identify current patient needs and develop care plan goals for gaming and tablet use.
• Use gaming tools and tablets to help children cope.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Child Life, Child Development, or gaming technology related field.
• At least 1 year of experience working with gaming and technology in a pediatric setting.
• Ability to work flexible schedules including evening, weekends, and holidays.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Minimum three years employment in a gaming or technology focused position serving children.
• Master's degree in Child Life, Child Development, Creative Arts Therapy or related field.
• Dual Certified Child Life (CCLS) and Creative Arts Therapy (LCAT).

Prior to start date, the selected candidate must meet the following requirements:

• Successfully complete pre-employment physical examination and obtain medical clearance from Stony Brook Medicine's Employee Health Services*
• Complete electronic reference check with a minimum of three (3) professional references.
• Successfully complete a 4panel drug screen*
• Meet Regulatory Requirements for pre-employment screenings.
• Provide a copy of any required New York State license(s)/certificate(s).

Failure to comply with any of the above requirements could result in a delayed start date and/or revocation of the employment offer.
