DescriptionClinical Instructor - Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant for supervising the Infusion center at Stony Brook Cancer Center (Part-Time position). The APP will report to the Division Chief of Hematology/Oncology. Responsibilities may include all or some of the following:
Manage infusion reactions and treat as appropriate. Review infusion orders for clarity and modify as necessary. Independently assess and evaluate patients in the infusion clinic of Stony Brook Cancer Center who present with new or progressive symptoms/signs. Review, evaluate, and make recommendations regarding laboratory findings for patients seen in the infusion center. Manage complications of chemotherapy including writing/editing chemotherapy orders.
Manage outpatient phone calls including toxicity assessments and recommendations. Provide coverage and management for sick walk-ins. Educate patients and family members regarding chemotherapy toxicities. Knowledge of basic software packages and hospital information systems (EMR). Additional responsibilities may also be required as the position evolves over time.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Nurse Practitioner: Current NYS RN license. Master's degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in Nursing. NYS license and certification as an Adult and/or Family Nurse Practitioner.
Physician Assistant: NYS License and certification as a Physician Assistant. Bachelor's degree (foreign equivalent or higher) from an accredited school of PA's.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Experience in the management and treatment of cancer patients. Excellent communication skills. Experience with chemotherapy toxicities and infusion reactions.
Special NotesNon-Tenure Track position. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA.
