Postdoctoral Associate – Mammalian Paleontology

Location: Department of Anatomical Sciences, Stony Brook University

Schedule: Full‑time, Day Shift (8:30 AM – 5:00 PM)

Posting Dates: Jan 14, 2026 – Jan 28, 2026

Salary Grade: E89 (starting salary range indicated in posting)

Responsibilities
  • Conduct research in mammalian paleontology, supporting Dr. Maureen O’Leary in the Department of Anatomical Sciences.
  • Collect and analyze data, including literature searches and utilizing specialized techniques.
  • Participate in manuscript writing for publication and assist in grant writing.
  • Attend scientific conferences and meetings as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, ensuring compliance with Stony Brook University policies.
Required Qualifications
  • PhD (or foreign equivalent) in vertebrate paleontology with a concentration in fossil mammal evolution or closely related field.
  • Expertise in cranial, postcranial, and dental anatomy of fossil mammals.
  • Demonstrated research experience in CT‑based anatomical studies of fossil mammals.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior publications on Cretaceous or Paleogene fossil mammals, particularly those of Asia.
