Job Overview

POSITION:
Seasonal Marina Bait Shop Assistant with the Buena Vista County Conservation Board, Storm Lake, Iowa.

EMPLOYMENT PERIOD:
Flexible:
May – November. Flexible Work Schedule. Potential upward mobility to permanent part time or longer work season.

SALARY:
Competitive wage based on experience, no benefits, uniform shirts provided.

• Greet customers in a friendly and professional manner as they enter the store.
• Assist customers with purchasing live bait, fishing tackle, prepackaged food, beverages, and other related products.
• Provide knowledgeable recommendations on fishing supplies and local fishing conditions.
• Maintain an organized and stocked store, ensuring bait tanks are kept fresh and inventory is well-managed.
• Keep the shop clean and neat, including the sales floor, bait tanks, restocking shelves, and cleaning up spills or debris.
• Handle cash, credit, and debit transactions accurately using the point of sale (POS) system.
• Restock prepackaged food and beverages like soda, snacks, and other convenience items.
• Assist with opening and closing duties, including cash drawer balancing and securing the store.
• Ensure all products are stored and displayed safely and in accordance with safety guidelines.
• Assist in the upkeep of the shop’s website and social media presence, if applicable.
• Occasionally help with outdoor activities like restocking supplies or unloading deliveries.
• Assist with nuisance wildlife deterrence and cleanup.
• Check garbage cans and perform garbage cleanup on property.

• Minimum:
  Must be at least 16 years of age and have a valid Driver’s License.
• Prior retail or customer service experience is preferred, but not required.
• Interest in fishing and knowledge of local fishing spots is a plus.
• Ability to lift up to 25 pounds and stand, walk, sit, kneel, stoop, and balance for extended periods of time.
• Excellent communication skills and a positive attitude when interacting with customers.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Follow written and oral instructions.
• Basic math skills and familiarity with handling cash transactions.
• Must be reliable, punctual, and able to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays.
• Must be able to work in various weather conditions as some tasks may be outdoors.
