Basketball Referee

With the guidance and direction of the Program Director, the Referee administers the policies and procedures of all basketball programs relating to youth, teen, adult, and active older adult. He/she will uphold the employee code of conduct and will ensure that all areas of the job responsibilities reflect the mission of the Old Colony Y, and regulating agency. The Referee will display and encourage the character traits of caring, responsibility, honesty and respect in the fulfillment of all job duties.

• Enforce and demonstrate a strong knowledge of all the rules of the Old Colony YMCA Basketball League. The league rules are High School Rules with a few modifications.
• Work 2-4 games in any given night that you are assigned.
• Adults (men’s league, women’s league);
  Competitive with playoffs; 2 20‑minute halves, running clock; 2 refs per game; sessions run: spring, fall, winter.
• Score games, maintain stat sheets and use the scoreboard if needed.
• Arrive 15 minutes before the scheduled time.
• Receive and follow detailed instructions.
• Be capable of working under pressure.
• Resolve conflicts in a professional and tactful manner.
• Assist with set‑up of the gym before games and cleanup afterward.
• Ensure a safe and positive experience for all participants.
• Work closely with the league coordinator to ensure the league runs smoothly.

• Must be at least 21 years old.
• High School Diploma or GED.
• IAABO Certified Basketball official with at least 2 years of experience (must show proof).
• Knowledge of the High School Basketball rules of the State of Massachusetts.
• Ability to work score, stat sheets and a scoreboard if asked.
