Summary

Stoughton Area School District is seeking a Special Education Learning Strategist who is an asset‑based thinker to provide specialized instruction that supports students' academic, social‑emotional, and executive functioning growth. The role involves collaborating with a variety of stakeholders to co‑plan and ensure access to the general education curriculum in the least restrictive environment, while designing individualized interventions and promoting inclusion. The strategist will help students develop key skills for success, tracking progress and adapting strategies as needed to foster a positive, supportive learning environment.

This position will have opportunities to collaborate with our Social‑Emotional Learning Coach and our Inclusion Support Coach to develop innovative approaches to meet the needs of students with intensive behavioral challenges.

Responsibilities
  • Evaluate students to determine eligibility for special education services and collaboratively facilitate, develop and provide needed services to support learning through an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) in the Least Restrictive Environment.
  • Understand the continuum of service delivery and least restrictive environment with the intent to provide students with skills needed to be successful in the general education environment, to the greatest extent possible.
  • Use a wide variety of research‑based interventions (specially designed instruction) for math, literacy, social, emotional, and executive functioning skills.
  • Develop, communicate, implement, and review functional behavior analysis and individualized behavior plans.
  • Understand and use culturally responsive and trauma‑sensitive practices.
  • Understand curricular design in all core subject areas to provide access points and supplementary aids and services to collaboratively plan lessons with General education teachers in order to reach a variety of learners (Universal Design for Learning).
  • Collaborate closely with all school staff, including administrators, general education teachers, other learning strategists, counselors, social workers, school psychologists, and paraprofessionals.
  • Develop strong relationships and collaborate closely with parents and students.
  • Collect, review, document, and use data to inform practices, determine specially designed instruction and supplementary aids/services, and problem‑solve creatively.
  • Maintain and complete all appropriate records including IEPs, progress reports, classroom observation records, and other records as required by deadlines determined by the Director of Student Services.
  • Coordinate, prepare for, and facilitate IEP team meetings with a focus on achieving goals within the structure of the curriculum.
  • Provide community‑based and non‑school instruction as determined by the IEP.

    Qualifications
  • Current Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction certification (special ed‑preferred cross categorical, dual certification general ed/special ed preferred).
  • Five years teaching experience is preferred.
  • Master's degree preferred.
  • Evidence of competencies in social/emotional instruction and intensive intervention is strongly encouraged.
  • Experience with students with Autism Spectrum Disorder is strongly encouraged.
  • Advocate of the District's Strategic Plan strategies and related activities with an inclusive focus.
