Learning Support Assistant – Year 2 (ASD)
Location:
Haughley, Stowmarket, Suffolk IP14 3QZ
Salary: £12.65 per hour, annual increments linked to performance management
Hours:
8:30 am – 12:30 pm, Monday – Friday (additional hours may be available if funding allows)
Contract:
Fixed‑term contract for the duration of support required, starting as soon as possible.
- Work with a Year 2 child with Autism, providing learning and care support, managing routines, transitions, behaviour and communication, and intimate care.
- Support the pupil(s) in the classroom and playground as necessary.
- Build positive relationships with children, families and colleagues.
- Assist with development and delivery of educational support and care plans.
- Collaborate with class teachers, the Special Needs Lead and other staff to adopt strategies that support and increase children’s achievements.
- Contribute ideas to the planning of learning activities and deliver activities when directed inside or outside the classroom.
- Help pupils achieve their full potential in all areas of learning and promote inclusion by encouraging participation of all pupils.
- Use effective behaviour‑management strategies consistently in line with the school’s policy and procedures.
- Help manage teaching space and resources to maintain a stimulating and safe learning environment.
- Through observations, provide regular feedback to teachers and parents on children’s progress, attainment and learning barriers.
- Read and understand lesson plans shared prior to lessons, when available.
- Share knowledge and understanding of children with other school staff and education, health and social care professionals.
- Communicate effectively with staff, pupils, parents and carers, keeping professionals accurately informed about performance, progress and any concerns.
- Develop effective professional relationships with colleagues.
- Reflect on own practice, liaise with school leaders and identify relevant professional development to improve personal effectiveness.
- Take part in the school’s appraisal procedures.
- Safeguarding: work in line with statutory guidance (e.g. Keeping Children Safe in Education, Prevent) and the school’s safeguarding and child‑protection policies, promoting the safeguarding of all pupils.
