Job Description & How to Apply Below

Mendlesham Medical Group (Mendlesham Health Centre & Manor Farm Surgery) has an opportunity for an enthusiastic and proactive care navigator/receptionist to join our friendly team on an apart‑time basis for 28 hours per week on 4 days.

Reception is a vital part of our practice and plays a key role in supporting patients to access the right service at the right time. The post holder will provide a professional, welcoming and efficient service to patients, both face‑to‑face and via the telephone, while supporting the wider practice team with a range of administrative duties. General Practice can be busy and at times demanding, so we are looking for someone who can remain calm, professional and patient‑focused, even under pressure.

The ideal candidate will be a motivated team player with strong customer service skills and a confident, friendly telephone manner.

Main duties of the job
  • Welcoming patients and visitors to the practice and logging arrivals on the clinical system.
  • Answering the telephone promptly and dealing with patient enquiries in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Care navigating and signposting patients to the most appropriate clinician, service or member of the team.
  • Booking appointments and accurately recording information on the clinical system.
  • Supporting patients with new registrations, temporary patient requests and general practice information.
  • Scanning, filing and processing correspondence onto patient records in a timely way.
  • Handling patient queries, concerns and complaints in line with practice protocols.
  • Supporting day‑to‑day reception tasks including post, photocopying, and maintaining a tidy waiting area and reception space.
  • Working flexibly across both practice sites, providing cover during annual leave and sickness where required.
About us

Mendlesham Medical Group is a friendly, rural GP practice based across two sites – Mendlesham Health Centre and Manor Farm Surgery – located approximately four miles apart. We provide care to around 7,800 patients and are proud to offer a supportive and welcoming environment for both patients and staff.

Our team includes GP Partners, salaried GPs, a Nurse Practitioner and experienced Nurses, dispensary and administrative teams who work closely together to provide high quality, patient‑centred care.

Why work with us?

Reception and Care Navigation is at the heart of the practice and plays a vital role in ensuring patients are supported to access the right service at the right time. We are looking for people who are calm, organised and patient‑focused, with a genuine commitment to providing a helpful and professional service.

You will be joining a supportive team where training is provided, questions are encouraged, and staff are valued. This is a varied role with patient contact, and the opportunity to build skills across reception, administration and care navigation.

  • Strong IT and administrative skills, with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Good communication skills, with the confidence to ask appropriate questions and signpost patients to the right service.
  • Some flexibility is required, as you may occasionally need to work alternative hours to provide cover for colleagues. Applicants should also ensure they live within a reasonable commuting distance of the practice.
