Overview
The Domiciliary Care worker works as part of a team providing personal, domestic and social care at home to vulnerable individuals (including frail elderly, those with physical and learning disabilities and mental health) and their carers. The tasks to be performed may cover all or some of the following according to the individual needs of the client assessed by the appropriate professionals.
Responsibilities- Personal Care as specified on the care plan for the service user. This includes assisting service users with all aspects of personal hygiene i.e. washing, shaving, showering etc.
- Assist service users with toileting, dressing/undressing and feeding
- Assist service users with mobility and transfer using correctly any specialised equipment provided.
- Administer prescribed medication, only as directed by a qualified medical practitioner under the direction of a supervisor
- Assist service users with therapeutic programmes as directed by relevant professionals
- Domestic care: maintain cleanliness of the service users home to ensure a safe environment set out in the health and safety requirements, as directed
- When directed by the supervisor, prepare meals, light fires, attend to laundry, and ensure a safe and hygienic environment
- Social care: actively encourage service users according to their capabilities in the care plan to participate in daily activities; listen and provide support to individual clients and carers
- Manage affairs under direction of supervisor, for example, collecting benefits, shopping
- Collaborate with GPs, nurses, social workers and other personnel involved in the care of the service user
- Maintain accurate and reliable information recorded in line with Strabane District Caring Services policies and procedures
- Participate in induction and in-service training
- Complete relevant administration (timesheets, incident forms, activity sheets, etc)
- Adhere to safe practice according to health and safety procedures
- Any other appropriate duties as directed by the Care Coordinator
- Maintain client confidentiality at all times
- Comply with training and development requirements set out by Strabane District Caring Services
- Participate in induction, attend in-service training and update mandatory training when required
- Adhere to Health and Safety policy and procedures, including Domiciliary Care Regulations, National Minimum Standards and Health and Safety at Work Act
- Liase closely with the Supervisor, reporting any significant or unusual change (e.g., accidents, incidents or illness)
Monday-Friday for Morning/Lunch and Afternoon (Tea) runs
: £12.60 per hour
Monday-Thursday Bed (Night) runs
: £13.15 per hour
PLUS Mileage at 30p per mile
Qualifications & Requirements- Successful applicants must be willing to carry out Enhanced Access NI check
- Having a criminal conviction will not necessarily prohibit you from working with Strabane & District Caring Services; this depends on the information provided and the position applied for
- Access NI Code of Practice is available from
- Satisfactory Access NI vetting procedure
- NISCC registration
- Satisfactory References
- Full driving licence
- Access to a vehicle for work purposes
- 6 months experience in formal care setting
- NVQ Level 2 in Care or equivalent
- NISCC registered
- Up to date Moving and Handling
- Up to date Food and Hygiene
- 6 months formal experience
Two weeks alternating rota:
- Week 1:
Monday, Tuesday, Saturday, Sunday
Location:
Derry/Londonderry, Strabane
The role requires adherence to the Health and Safety policy and procedures and working closely with the Supervisor to report significant changes.
