A Trainee knitting operator will learn to set up, run, and monitor automatic machinery that produces knitted fabrics from yarn. Key duties include threading machines, troubleshooting faults, inspecting quality, and conducting basic maintenance.

Responsibilities
  • Supply the machines with the correct yarn.
  • Inspect the fabric/socks being produced on the machines.
  • Effectively communicate any faults or machine downtime.
  • Fix press-offs/needles etc.
  • Maintain the housekeeping within the Department and the cleanliness of the machines.
  • Must have a high attention to detail and a very high focus on quality and accuracy; prepared to carry out routine tasks time and time again.
  • Must be very co‑operative.
  • Participate in all job training and coaching.
  • Adhere to Health and Safety regulations at all times.
  • Ensure good working relations with colleagues.
  • Ensure that absenteeism and tardiness are kept to a minimum.
  • Ensure that company policies are adhered to always; this includes the Equal Opportunities Policy, Harassment Policy, Health and Safety Policy and Training Policy.
  • Any other reasonable duties requested.
Skills and Qualifications
  • GCSE level to include English and Maths.
  • Organisational skills.
  • Experience in the textiles industry.

Salary: £12.25 per hour for the first 13 weeks, moving to £13.15 per hour.

Strabane, County Tyrone.

Contract type:
Permanent.

Weekly hours: 39.

Closing date: 25/02/2026.

Worktime:
Rotating shift pattern covering a 3‑week period.
