Trainee Production Mechanic

Location:
Strabane

Salary Scale: £27,000 - £30,000 per annum

39 hours per week Monday to Thursday | 8:00am - 6:00pm 4 day week

MPA Recruitment are delighted to recruit for a Trainee Production Mechanic on behalf of our market leading client to join their busy manufacturing team in Strabane Co Tyrone

This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious individual who is passionate about mechanics, engineering and problem-solving. The successful candidate will receive hands-on training and support to develop into a skilled Production Mechanic, working with a wide range of production machinery and equipment.

Working alongside experienced technicians, you will gain valuable practical experience in machinery maintenance, fault finding, repairs, equipment setup and preventative maintenance while working towards further professional development and recognised qualifications.

What You'll Be Doing

As a Trainee Production Mechanic, you will:

  • Assist with the inspection, servicing and repair of production machinery and equipment.
  • Support the setup and adjustment of machinery for production operators.
  • Help diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic and electrical faults.
  • Respond to equipment breakdowns and assist with troubleshooting activities.
  • Carry out basic diagnostic tests and replace faulty components.
  • Support the implementation of preventative and predictive maintenance programmes.
  • Assemble, test and commission machinery following repairs.
  • Assist with scheduled maintenance activities.
  • Clean, lubricate and maintain equipment to maximise performance and longevity.
  • Study technical manuals and manufacturer specifications to support maintenance activities.
  • Maintain accurate records of parts and materials used.
  • Help manage stock levels and identify replacement parts requirements.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives, including 5S and workplace organisation projects.
  • Maintain high standards of housekeeping and workplace safety.
  • Participate in internal and external training programmes to develop technical skills.
  • Build positive working relationships with colleagues across the business.
  • Adhere to all company policies and Health & Safety regulations.

What We're Looking For

Essential Criteria

  • Level 3 Mechanical qualification or proven mechanical experience.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical systems and machinery.
  • Knowledge of hydraulic, electrical and associated mechanical components.
  • Ability to safely use a variety of tools and equipment.
  • Excellent problem-solving and fault-finding skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Commitment to maintaining high Health & Safety standards.
  • Full, clean driving licence.
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Organised, reliable and able to manage priorities effectively.
  • Flexible approach with a commitment to meeting deadlines.
  • A positive attitude and willingness to learn.

Desirable Criteria

  • Level 2 Mechanical or Electrical qualification.
  • Previous experience maintaining industrial or manufacturing equipment.
  • Experience working with commercial sewing machines.
